We pulled out of the Diamond Jack's Casino campground around 9:00 AM this morning. When we arrived yesterday evening the lady running the campground was just leaving, so she said she would be in around 10:00 AM and we could settle up then. This all sounds good, except she didn't give us the codes to get in the bathroom or on the wi-fi and since she wasn't in when we left we haven't paid her, although we will call and settle up with them.
It didn't take us long to get to Texas |
For some reason my very expensive Garmin GPS (a Zumo 390 that I normally use on the bike) kept screwing up the route, although I think this was my fault, so my chief and excellent navigator (that would be Jeri) researched on her phone and with the new Rand McNally Atlas I bought yesterday because I forgot the other new one I bought at home and got us squared away so we could do a wide pass east and north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and get us on 287 north and west to I-40 just east of Amarillo.
We pulled into a church parking lot in some small town and Jeri fixed us egg salad sandwiches for lunch, then got back on the road.

Going through Wichita Falls we had to get a picture of the Sheppard AFB sign, since I spent almost a year of my Air Force life going to DSTE and Crypto school there before going to Vietnam. |
Just before our last gas up (about every 100 miles, because 9 mpg doesn't get one very far and out here in the West I never like to get much below half a tank) Jeri talked to Vicki for quite awhile and while I was gassing up she got to talk to the boys. We sure miss Vicki, Jack and Max a lot already, and we have 28 days to go on the RV adventure extravaganza!
Jeri booked us a campsite, #20, at the Olde Town Cotton Gin RV Park and we rolled in to our campsite (reserved with a orange cone and with an envelope containing TV stations on the cable, wi-fi code and other bits of info) at 7:00 PM after ten hours of travel.

On these overnighters I don't disconnect the trailer from the Jeep. I just crank the hitch up a bit to take some load off the Jeep springs and level the trailer, then run down the stabilizer jacks to steady her. If we were boondocking I would disconnect the wiring harness so as not to risk running the Jeep battery down, but so far, as hot as it's been we've wanted the A/C in the trailer.

The Olde Town Cotton Gin RV Park building with the office and store (I'm sure we'll be doing some shopping in here in the morning!!) |
Bill setting up the trailer--first thing was the A/C--it was 96 degrees of blowing heat (the damn wind never stops blowing in Texas!!!) |
Jeri checked out the pool, but said it was too cold to swim in it. LOL |
Bill, cowboy hat and all, grilling some marinated chicken wings for dinner. |
