Jeri at the Boomtown Casino buffet Monday evening (very good!)
|
This is Warren, the longhorn -- he stands at the entrance to Boomtown--reputedly he saved the Boomtown barge when Katrina hit in 2005 by anchoring the barge with his long horns. |
Jeri had to have a parting shot of Boomtown Casino in Biloxi on the way out. ;-) |
We got off this morning around 9:30ish heading for Shreveport, LA. Yesterday, with the ups and downs we were getting around 8.6 to 8.8 miles per gallon. Today, in the flat country of Mississippi and southern Louisiana we were getting almost 9.7 mpg, until we got further north when it dropped to around 9.4 mpg.
The pull went well today and we enjoyed a couple of roads we had never been on before, I-12 and I-49. We did NOT enjoy LA 190--rough as hell!!
Entering Louisiana on I-10 |
Jeri had to look up on the internet (what can I say, it gives her something to do... LOL), but this is a sugar cane field. |
A bridge over something... |
We drove over the Morganza spillway on 190. If I remember correctly this spillway played quite a part in one of the fairly recent Mississippi River floods.

Shreveport, LA water tower... |
As I type this at 8:15 PM Jeri has been off gambling since around 7:00 PM. After I got the hookups done and replenished our fresh water tank I put up a curtain rod and curtain that we got today during our lunch stop at a Walmart in Louisiana. We keep getting woke up by the light coming in through the frosted glass of the trailer door, so we now have a dark curtain up to block this.
Bill at our campsite at Diamond Jack's Casino (honestly, this is not a casino touring trip...) |
This was our longest pull so far. We drove 396 miles. Yes, I earned my Captain Fisher cocktail!!! ;-) The drive went quite well. Tomorrow we strike out west on I-20 on our way to pick up I-40 in Amarillo, Texas. We hope to make it up to around Wichita Falls (where I spent a year at Sheppard Air Force Base going to tech school) where we will either find a campground or do our first night of boondocking.
Total miles today: 396 miles
Total travel time: 8.5 hours (remember, this includes all the stops)
Average MPH: 46.6 mph
8:37 PM: Jeri just got back--a loser... Said the slots were horribly stingy. LOL Cooking some dinner now. More pictures later.
